With just three simple colors, we were drawn to her Parallel Universe.
One of most prominent young Serbian designer, Sonja Jocic gave us a peak into her artistic world with her latest presentation at the Belgrade Fashion Week.
The Serbian designer was all about the balance. Consistently working with only black, white and red, she gave the collection a sense of continuum. This was a solid ground for Jocic to devote herself to lush forms.
It was a game of construction and deconstruction at its best: the voluptuous, origami-reminiscent-structured coat and a raw-cut draped skirt all found their place in the designer’s Parallel Universe.
Thanks to her impeccable sense of proportion, Jocic kept all her forms in perfect harmony. The all-wired-up bulky sweatshirt duets with simple leather cigarette pants, whereas a firm-constructed skirt affiliates with a simple red turtleneck.
Even with fabrics, Jocic dared to be unconventional. In her world of deliberate contradiction, cotton shirt is paired with a PVC glossy skirt, a silk dress with rubber boots. And for all of this, we praise her!
Sonja Jocic received her degree in Fashion Design at the Belgrade’s College of Textile Design and went on to pursue her masters degree of Fine Arts at the Swedish School of Textile in 2014.
Beyond fashion design, Jocic made an effort in styling and costume design, as well. She has been recognized for her talent and achievement in fashion design with numerous awards, including The Elle Fashion Award and Textil Young Designer Award.
The young Serbian designer continues to present her work at various fashion events.
